Veterans Field Dive Program
Deep Sea Valkyries in partnership with the Georgia Aquarium headed to Florida from March 16th - 20th to participate in the aquarium’s Veterans Field Dive Program.
Through this partnership, ten Deep Sea Valkyries alumni were selected to take part, stepping into a renewed mission of service beyond the uniform. These Veterans are not only continuing their healing journey, but actively contributing to the restoration of fragile reef ecosystems alongside Reef Renewal USA in the Florida Keys.
By working as a team in a challenging and meaningful environment, participants rediscover camaraderie, leadership, and a sense of belonging—proving that service does not end with military life, it simply evolves.
The weather was not in our favor and some of our plans for the week had to pivot. What a perfect reminder that we need to be adaptable in our outlook, to adjust and thrive in changing circumstances. It's a soft skill that enables individuals to handle transitions, embrace new information, and effectively navigate unfamiliar situations. Adaptability is crucial in various aspects of life, including work, personal relationships, and personal growth.
We hiked the citrus groves full of tiny key limes, we fed some aggressive tarpon, we visited the Turtle Hospital, we ate ice cream, and we shared the moments that matter most.
Our thanks to the amazing Georgia Aquarium staff that guided us for the week and gave our Valkyries this opportunity. This experience stands as a powerful reminder that when veterans are given the opportunity to serve again, they do not just heal themselves—they help restore the world around them.
