Deep Sea Valkyries

“War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself”

~ John Stuart Mill~

Voyage Goal

It is our goal, that on each voyage, our Veterans come together as Brothers and Sisters once again; through shared experiences, find emotional, physical, and spiritual healing; that they may return having found the beauty of this life above and below the surface.

What Is A Valkyrie Voyage?

Valkyrie Voyages are week long retreats on live-aboard ships.  Veterans participating in a retreat agree to the following three conditions:

  • Willing to re-experience camaraderie.  A concept heard by many but understood by few; camaraderie within the military is hard to explain and almost impossible to replicate but we succeed where others have failed.  By creating a group dynamic that is interdependent amongst participants, we experience a sense of humor unique to each group and a willingness to reconnect as you once did in your past service.

  • Willing to discuss life.  We understand that each Veteran’s experiences are unique to that individual yet the feelings and emotions are not uncommon.  We do not judge these struggles yet we expect our Heroes to be willing to open up and discuss what is on their mind and what their struggles are.  We cannot and do not heal as individuals.  We find healing in our shared experiences and welcome all our Warriors to open up as a group and to find support within that group.  Current statistics estimate that as many as 20 Veterans commit suicide each day and our goal is to ensure that number reduces to zero.  These retreats show our Veterans that they are not alone and have support in groups they never realized.  Respect among participants is critical to our success and the honor shared among Veterans allows our program to prosper.

  • Combat Veterans often see the worst in society and humanity.  The lucky few will have interacted and seen their actions result in positive change in an individual’s life.  Yet for many, the positive gains are overshadowed by the ugliness that is war.  Deep Sea Valkyries provides retreats to highlight the beauty found in the world that is often lost on our Veterans; we help Heroes rediscover the beauty of the world, after all…
